“Instead of replacing it, we’ve opted to improve it”
Werner Lokerse, co-owner of Floor Foods
Challenge
Floor Foods had an existing GEA machine whose software was no longer supported and which was no longer functioning properly from a technical point of view. The question was: should they replace it with a new one, or would it be smarter to make better use of what they already had?
Solution
VH proposed fully refurbishing the machine to make it future-proof once again. Floor Foods therefore opted for a more cost-effective and sustainable solution.
For Werner at Floor Foods, it’s all about making smart choices: investing where necessary, optimising where possible. The decision to opt for a refurbished machine from VH Vertical Packaging fits in seamlessly with this approach.
A partnership that has been going on for years
The partnership with VH did not begin with this investment. “I’ve known Freek from a previous collaboration,” says Werner. “We were already doing business together back then. That relationship has always remained strong.” When Werner became a co-owner of Floor Foods in 2022, that partnership was further expanded. “VH was already providing the servicing for our machines at that time. So when we were faced with the next step, the choice was actually a straightforward one.”
From obsolete to future-proof
The reason was clear: the existing machine was no longer up to scratch. “We had a GEA CX250 whose software was no longer supported. On top of that, the machine itself was also broken.” Instead of immediately looking for a new machine, VH came up with an alternative. “Freek suggested completely refurbishing the machine. That gave us a whole new perspective.”
Smart investment: more than just costs
The decision to refurbish proved to be more than just a financially sound choice. “Of course, it’s a more cost-effective investment than buying new,” explains Werner. “But it goes beyond that. Reuse is playing an increasingly important role. People are increasingly looking at how to make the most of their existing machinery. That also makes it a more sustainable choice.”
Short lines of communication, clear agreements
What is just as important to Floor Foods is the way they work together. “The lines of communication are short and we can react quickly. If there’s a problem, it gets sorted out.” That reliability instils confidence for the long term. “A promise is a promise. And that’s what makes working with VH such a pleasure,” concludes Werner.
